Art that expresses
who you are.
About Patrick Mang
Patrick was born and raised in Germany, where he explored a range of creative disciplines from an early age. His path found a clear direction in 2018 when he began tattooing, an art form that quickly became central to his life and practice. For Patrick, tattooing is both a craft and a way of being, grounded in one of the oldest forms of human expression.
His work is shaped by a broad range of influences, with a consistent pull toward the natural world and the human body as sites of meaning and connection. In 2025, he relocated to Aotearoa, settling in Christchurch, where his practice continues to evolve within a new landscape.
Working across both skin and paper, Patrick’s tattoo practice sits alongside a body of works on paper, each informing the other. The immediacy, precision, and permanence of tattooing are balanced by the freedom and exploration found in drawing.
At the core of his work is an ongoing exploration of the body as both form and language. Drawing on traditions such as Japanese irezumi and shibari, he brings together ideas of structure, tension, and release considering how the body can be shaped, held, and understood through line and gesture.
Rather than focusing on individual moments, his work reflects a wider interest in vulnerability, trust, and shared human experience. The figures he creates are not fixed narratives, but open spaces inviting viewers to consider their own relationship to the body, to sensation, and to the ways we seek connection and meaning.
